My latest collection has launched!
It's called Formations, after the rock formations in Iceland and Northern Ireland and elsewhere in the world. They are called Basalt columns and I've been thinking of this collection for a couple of years now since I visited Iceland with my husband (then boyfriend).
Basalt columns can be found all over Iceland, (here's the boring geology bit), they are formed when lava cools and the contraction causes the new rock to split into 6-sided columns.
As I mentioned, they can be found all over Iceland, mostly because Iceland is a volcanic island, so there's plenty of lava.
My husband and I have just got back from a week long trip to Iceland (another one), where we drove around the ring road. My previous post was all about our trip. While there we got to see the columns again.
Here are some photos of the ones that can be found on Vik beach in Iceland. Vik beach is a black sand beach on the south coast and these columns jut up to the water.
We were also lucky enough to visit Svartifoss Waterfall at Skaftafell. It was a 40 minute walk up to the top of it, but well worth it as you can see from the photos.
My Formations collection is only inspired by the basalt columns, the reason being, my "columns" are 4-sided, rather than 6-sided.
The collection is now available to buy here. I hope you enjoy browsing through it!
