Druzys are all the rage right now. You may have heard the name, but do you know what it is?Well, first of all they're pretty, very pretty! If you're into sparkly things, then a druzy is the stone for you.
As you can see from the photo, it looks like glitter on the surface of the stone, these are in fact tiny crystals that are on top of colored minerals and they can look like velvet. Stones where the crystals can be found are often quartz, but can also be agate, garnet, dolomite and malachite.
The crystals appear when water brings minerals onto a rock's surface. When the water evaporates, cooling occurs and the minerals are left behind to form crystals on top of the stone. Depending on the minerals, druzys can be almost any color; white, pink, blue, purple, green or black.
The meaning of a Druzy
Druzy crystals have been used to induce creativity and relaxation, as well as to help with emotional problems. Wearing Druzy gemstones is believed to promote relaxation and stress relief. People use it to connect more easily with their own inherent healing powers. Druzy Quartz is also thought to help the immune and reproductive systems.
Taking care of your druzy
Since the glittery layer are crystals, it's important to take care of your druzy jewelry. Here are some tips:
- Don't wear it in water (shower, bath or pool)
- Avoid knocking or dropping your stone as they are fragile and can easily crack or break.
- Wipe them clean with a soft dry cloth. Do not immerse in harsh chemicals, or use ultrasonic cleaners.
- The crystals are fragile, so you may be better purchasing a necklace rather than a ring or bracelet that has more wear and tear.
